Forklift Filters Demystified

Forklifts are under a constant barrage of contaminants from its daily work environment. Dust, dirt, and debris have a high chance of making its way into your air, fuel, hydraulic fluid, and oil components which will ultimately destroy your machine. The only proven method to keep this from happening is to install forklift filters. Filters have been around for thousands of years, one of the first known filters was made around 500 BC. Hippocrates invented the practice of sieving water and created the first bag filter, called the Hippocratic Sleeve. The main purpose of the bag was to trap sediments that caused bad tastes or odors. Early industrial age developers then repurposed Hippocrates Sleeve to keep contaminants out of delicate forklift systems. Find out about the many types of forklift filters by reading below.

  • Air filters are responsible for providing particulate-free air to the engine. Air is an oxidizer in the fuel burning process in the forklift engine. If the air were contaminated, there would be damage to the intake and engine causing an unclean burn and possible engine failure.
  • Fuel filters help keep dirt, rust, paint chips, from fueling or even from moisture in the tank itself from contaminating the fuel system. Without the filter, these particles can cause immediate ware and failure in your fuel injection system.
  • Hydraulic Filters
  • LPG Fuel filters keeps particles from entering your liquid propane fuel system.
  • Breathers provide a contaminant-free vent for air to flow in and out of the tank as need.
  • Hydraulic Breathers provide a contaminant-free vent for air to flow in and out of the tank as needed
  • Differential Breather provides contaminate free venting of the air pressure in the different drive train assemblies.
  • Air Breather provide a contaminant-free air pressure venting of the lower engine.
  • Water Separator removes water and contaminants from the fuel before it reaches the engine and allows you to drain the collected water.
  • In-Line Filter helps prevent contamination from clogging delicate systems and is typically placed along flow paths.
  • Brake fluid filters are found inside the brake fluid reservoir to dirt and debris from making its way into the braking system.
  • Pre-Cleaner Bowl uses centrifugal force in the bowl to separate incoming dust before it enters the engine air intake system.
  • Suction Strainer also is known as sump strainers or tank strainers are designed to remove coarse particle contaminants from solvents, oils, and fuels.
  • Oil Filters help to remove contaminants from engine oil, transmission oil, lubricating oil, or hydraulic oil and are typically found in internal combustion engines.
  • Panel Filters are flat and usually rectangular. They are made up of accordion folded fibrous material used to catch contaminates as air flows through the material.
  • Transmission Filters collects debris as transmission fluid flows into the transmission.

As you can see, forklifts have many types of filters that need to be installed and periodically replaced.
